About Seven Jazz

Seven Jazz is an independent voluntary music promoter based in Chapel Allerton Leeds. Our aim is to promote high quality and accessible jazz and related musics. 2014 is our seventh anniversary year and we are pleased that we won the most recent Jazz Yorkshire award for Jazz Club of the Year at their event in Dean Clough Halifax; Jean Watson also won the Jazz fundraiser of the year.

Seven Arts, our main venue has great acoustics and a cafe with a wide range of drinks and food. It is at 31 Harrogate Road in Chapel Allerton, close to the city centre with good public transport and free local parking. Our other main venue is the inspirational Inkwell Arts, not far from Seven Arts at 31 Potternewton Lane, also in Chapel Allerton. Seven Jazz run about 60-70 gigs per year and about the same number of workshops. Our Sunday gigs are every Sunday between 1.30pm and 4pm with the best of the rich and creative elements of the Leeds and Yorkshirejazz scene, and evening concerts on a Thursday (with some Saturdays) that feature national and international jazz stars.

We also run  instrumental workshopsfor people who want to learn more about the music or to play with other musicians, and run "Jazz Cafe" jam sessions where we encourage people to play and sing with a top local rhythm section -  a jazz talent show! We also organise the bands at the open air Jazz Sunday at the Chapel Allerton Festival in September. Our choir, the "Seven Jazz Voices Choir" meet in Inkwell, tutored by the fantastic Nicki Allen.

We  want people to come and enjoy the music and have fun - our afternoon concerts arefamily friendly and kids under 16 can come to our Sunday concerts free of charge. We also have concessions for people who are unwaged and for students and have a loyalty card for our Sunday gigs (the 6th gig is free!). We offer reduced price season tickets for our evening gigs and full time students can get into our evening gigs for £5 if we have tickets left.We have an online sales service for tickets at SEVEN ARTS and for our annual BLUESFEST

Seven Jazz is run by volunteers - the people who help and you will see at gigs are Martin Briggs, Steve Crocker, Tom Swire, Steve Ross, Tony Walsh, Will Powell and Jean Watson. Our Saturday workshops are run by a range of top Leeds jazz educators. Guitarist Dom Moore runs a very popular improvisation group on Friday evenings held at the Methodist Centre, Chapel Allerton. Nicki Allan tutors our Jazz Choir on Monday evenings at Inkwell on Potternewton Lane. We also have lots of people who just come and support us by coming to the club and enjoying the music. We are always looking for help - just come to one of our gigs and offer.
